Good News: New Streetlights Bring Energy Savings

The Town staff are always looking for ways to cut costs, secure grants, or both.

Thanks to the efforts of the current and former directors of public works, the Town is about to make an investment in streetlights that will save us $68,000 annually in electricity and maintenance. This year, we will replace 813 of the old cobra-style streetlights with energy-efficient LED lights. The cost, after deducting a provincial grant, will be $305,000 (taken from reserves). The payback period is 4.5 years. The new lights meet the specs of our dark skies by-law.
